Steve’s Snippets 28 August 2002

What an interesting and busy week it has been. Firstly the second Presidents’ meeting was held last Friday evening, and I thank Tony Lanzafame for joining me for the Youth Directors’ segment. Then on Saturday a leisurely drive up the Blue Mountains for our "Yulefest" weekend at The Echo Point Motor Inn. Thanks to the Campisi’s, Douglas’s, Khu’s, McCluskie’s, Hennell’s, Smallwood’s True’s, Templeman’s, and Watson’s for joining Denise and I for a wonderful weekend.

We enjoyed a wonderful traditional Yulefest dinner, complete with Santa and gifts, some reasonable singing (even without Peter Foss) and an exchange of gifts. Unfortunately Graham True received a packet of Viagra tablets, and this left him a bit "stiff" the next morning.

Following Sunday breakfast we were pleased to find our host Bob Reed (the current president of Upper Blue Mountains Sunrise Club) had included at no cost, a trip down the "very steep" scenic railway. We then undertook a pleasant and invigorating walk in the valley floor (on a newly constructed extensive boardwalk track) and then back up to the top via the relatively new 80 seat "Gondola" style cable car.

All this activity was followed by a pleasant lunch at The Conservation Hut" at Wentworth Falls overlooking the escarpment and the valley’s beyond.

And then last night the Taylor’s and Watson’s enjoyed an excellent performance of the Man from Snowy River spectacular at the Entertainment Centre. As I said what a weekend !!!!!

Sincere thanks to Pres elect Keith for organising the weekend, who after changing the original date at the request of The Pres’s wife, belatedly realised it conflicted with his own tickets to Snowy River on the Saturday night and therefore he and Lillian couldn’t make the weekend.

At the Presidents’ meeting on Friday I was successful in organising a combined meeting with Concord and Burwood, on either November 6th or 13th; at either our bowling Club venue or Strathfield Golf Club. We will be addressed by our recently returned GSE team to Germany lead by President Duncan Berriman of Lower Blue. This should be a fun evening and a great way for us to recognise Foundation month. (More details will be provided when our negotiations are finalised)

The Club made a small profit from our weekend away and accordingly we will be the first club in the district to support Upper Blue Mountains Sunrise Vanuatu hospital bed appeal. Our donation of $300.00 will provide funding for one bed for three years in the main hospital in this very poor country.

Finally, please consider your additional attendance or makeup at the GSE farewell for the team going to Scotland shortly (Monday night September 2nd Holroyd Centre Merrylands 6.30 for 7.00pm). The team will be lead by President Allan Ezzy from Holroyd and as you should be aware contains our successful nominee Mary Romanous. You will have to let Joe Campisi know by this Wednesday latest PLEASE !!!

Steve.

PS sorry, no bike riding stories this week (hooray! I hear you all say), the mountains were a bit too steep for me, and besides it’s not good to go riding early, after consuming so much wine the evening before.
