Steve’s Snippets 28th May 2003

Thanks to all those members who braved some very wet conditions to assist with the RED SHIELD APPEAL last Sunday. I don’t know the figures yet however the incessant rain was not conducive to easy collecting by the volunteers.

At least we shouldn’t feel too bad, today WAS the day we were going to have lunch at Ross and Joan Brown’s at Yarramalong.

Thanks to Joe Campisi for his organisation of the GSE meeting on Wednesday. I was reminded that in this team we had representatives from Strathfield, Concord and Burwood and perhaps we should have had a COMBINED MEETING like we did earlier this year for the returned German team. Unfortunately it didn’t enter my mind, but with the busy schedule we have had in the last three months I’m not sure it would if it would have been well received, particularly if we had to have a change of venue.

In any case it was an enjoyable evening, added to by the wonderful "life talk" by the inimitable Doctor Watson.

Don’t forget please that NEXT WEEK’S meeting (June 4th) will be a change of venue AND partners night at The Children’s Hospital Westmead. This should be a wonderful evening observing the "Art for Healing" program, the Starlight room, the in-house radio station and the workings of this wonderful hospital in general.

Planning on the Fun Run is proceeding well, and we hope to have a final sign off on the course this week, so that we can confirm marshal requirements and other job positions on the day.

Finally, I really do wish this rain would go away, the Cycling group had a washout again on Sunday, although I hear Pres elect Keith rode to Kurnell (near Cronulla) on Saturday with one of the group. You have to admire his enthusiasm.

Also please don’t forget the District changeover on June 28th, ours on Friday June 27th and the Fun Run on the 29th June. Nothing like being busy right to the end is there.

Have a great week

Finally, finally, for those interested in the embroidered jackets from Peter Cipolla tonite is the last night to give me your size. They are well made jackets and at $67.50 a real bargain.

Late News just in: The tally for the collection for the "Red Shield" appeal is just under $16,000. The weather and 25% reduction in collectors has accounted for a lower collection than usual .
