Steve’s Snippets 25 September 2002

What a difference a week makes…. After last week’s cycling debaucle I invested (at $50 a pop) in Kevlar PUNCTURE RESISTANT tyres for the Sunday ride. And guess what?.. They worked, no punctures for the first time in three weeks. Also a warm welcome to our master raffle man George Helou, who joined the group for a ride this week. By my calculations we now have over 20% of our members actively riding on Sunday morning. Watch out you non cyclists, there might be a change of meeting time and day coming!!!!!!! Congratulations also to marathon man Rick Collins who completed the Sydney marathon Sunday week back.

Thanks to our BBQ Queen Shirley and her helpers for her great work last Saturday at Strathfield South Public School. I hear George Helou donated the snags (gourmet variety) and Kevin Freund, Alan Petersen, Keith Stockall put in a lot of effort. My apologies for not being there and forgetting to mention those who may also have been there.

A special thanks to Sal (and Keith S too) for organising another great pizza night, at The Galleria in Leichhardt on Monday night. I am writing this with a (alcohol induced) headache and a full stomach after a very enjoyable evening. I might also add I am writing this on my home computer in my new study, having re-established some semblance of order after four (4) long months. It feels great to have some private space again.

On Wednesday at the meeting I will provide some supplementary info on upcoming events, a couple of golf days and a charity ball. As I write this it’s late, I’m tired and I still can’t find the things I need. Ladies forgive me; I am only a man after all.

Finally, I hope everybody was impressed with our speakers from the Children’s Medical Research Institute, one of the beneficiaries for our upcoming "Night for Children" on March 14th next year. Past President Euan, just like he did for David Croft’s conference will soon be updating us weekly with preparations, activities, requests for help, your attendance (with your friends) and your goodwill for this important fundraising event. Remember the more we raise, the more our charities get.

Keith Byrne will be absent this week attending the Liverpool Rotary club’s Policeman of the year award. Keith will be getting the lowdown on what to do so we can do the same with Burwood and Concord sometime next year.

Arrangements for Pride of Workmanship are going well but please don’t forget to confirm your attendance this and next week.

Have a great week and enjoy this wonderful (but dry) Spring we are having

Steve
