Steve’s Snippets 21 August 2002

And another week comes around. It’s hard to believe I’ve been doing this for over eight weeks now. How time flies. One thing I know I didn’t organise very well was being President of a very active Rotary club while I was undertaking a major alteration and renovation to my home. After thirteen weeks the lack of space, the lack of room and time to do any basic Rotary work is starting to get to me. That’s partly why I’m really looking forward to getting away this weekend to our "Yulefest’ celebration at The Echo Point motor Inn. Thanks to Keith Stockall for his great organisation. I’m sure we’ll have a fun and restful weekend away. At this stage the weather report looks promising with fine almost Spring-like weather.

This Sunday saw all three of our cycling club additions join the pack. "Puffing Bill" asserted himself well, Brian "BJ" Johnston improved markedly, but Rod "the natural" using Allan Taylor’s cast off had a serious tyre blowout early on and retired home to the telly for early coffee with Maree.

I am very pleased with the enthusiasm of the board, and our programs are now starting to take shape. As outlined Angelo is starting to organise a revamped, easier to manage and more appealing Xmas stocking, Keith B is planning another great Pride of Workmanship evening, and starting to talk to Burwood and Concord about the combined "Emergency Services awards", Joe is working on the GSE farewell and a possible local Matching Grant, Keith S has been very busy with our social program and Allan T is working on the organisation of our fundraising program for the year.

And in case you think I forgot Peter D is giving us great info on attendance and income at every meeting, and Shane is doing his very best to keep me on the straight and narrow during the meetings.

The only downside currently is the number of members who haven’t yet paid their six monthly dues.

Thanks to Brian Hennell for last week’s report on "new member induction". Due to timing constraints it will be followed up this week by Harley Tarrant with another Rotary information session. Our job talks will continue next week.

Tonite along with all the other commitment sheets I will be circulating a commitment for the GSE farewell on Monday September 2nd at the Holroyd Centre. The team is going to Scotland and contains our successful nominee Mary Romanous I hope many of you will join Denise and I to farewell the team. This is of course an optional Partners night, but not a change of meeting.

Apologies to Keith Stockall and Sal for having to postpone our first Pizza night for the year on the following night. I think that three nights in a row would have been too much - that seems to be reserved for Presidents. I believe the new night for pizza is September 24th. Keith will confirm this.

Finally I need to confirm the make up of the "Rotary" table at Strathfield Council’s Mayoral Ball tonite please. A number of members have already indicated their willingness, and I’m hopeful of getting a full table.

Have a good week everybody

Steve
