Steve’s Snippets 18 September 2002

A very warm welcome this week to our Partners and of course our special guest speakers Dr Roger Riddell and Jennifer Phelps from the Children’s Medical Research Institute.

As members would now be aware the proceeds from our major fundraiser on Friday March 14th 2003 will benefit the foundation along with The Rotary Wing of the Westmead Children’s Hospital.

I am pleased to report that with the good work and contacts of Sal Tosto and Angelo Franco, and the organizational skills of Chairman Euan Watson, the night is rapidly taking shape.

This week we have had confirmed the offer of a Subaru Impreza GX sedan at cost price, which will be supplied by the importer Inchcape Australia. Angelo is also organizing an overseas trip at a much reduced price.

Angelo is also at present trying to organize a movie theatre preview evening as a modest fundraiser, and he has plans well in hand for our revamped Xmas stocking, which with the inclusion of a big screen TV and DVD player should add some demand for tickets this year.

I trust everyone enjoyed the performance of Cabaret on Tuesday evening, and remind everybody that tonight is the last night for acceptances for the pizza night next Monday at The Galleria (where we have been before) in Leichhardt. Never let it be said Club Service Director Keith is not providing sufficient opportunities for quality outings this year.

Last week we I mentioned the initiative of Keith Byrn in suggesting a matching grant with Moree Rotary Club for the purpose of providing drought relief. Keith has provided me with contact details for the President and I hope to have more news this week.

Congratulations to Keith and all club members for the 18 nominations received to date for the Pride of Workmanship awards night on October 16th.

This promises to be an excellent evening at Le Montage and I hope most club members will be able to attend this excellent evening.

Finally, I request that all club members keep away from me this week as I am truly jinxed, hexed, buggered or whatever. Not only did I have two more punctures while out riding on Sunday with the group, but somehow??? I managed to severely buckle my wheel while doing so.

At least I wasn’t the only one this time with Rocket Rod McDougall losing a pedal (at Brighton Le Sands no less, requiring him to ride home one footed!!) but Alan Taylor lost his toolkit and Euan (who had his bike serviced during the week) also nearly lost a pedal.

What a day!!

Keith Stockall was the smart one, deciding instead to spend the weekend "conferencing" at The Grand Mercure in Bowral (with Lill of course).

Don’t worry Graham True, I won’t be mentioning the bike riding group in the sergeants session this week.

Have a great week everybody

Steve.
