I have a suggestion. As you may
remember the late Past President Maurie Moroney, championed by Ray McCluskie
or Roger Vince, or was it Foss, was interested in giving a name to our
weekly bulletin which remains just "The Bulletin". As we cyclists were
having our post ride coffee last Sunday we were wondering what Keith could
call his report next year, and somebody said what about "Keith spoke" (as in
speaking and bikes), and I said (I was pretty tired at the team after doing
a quick 65km training ride) what about calling our bulletin the spoke. How
fitting considering the enormous popularity of cycling in our club
(apologies to Graham True of course. There you go fellows, a hopefully
pleasant and trivial matter to be discussed along with more serious issues
at our Dec 4th club assembly, AGM and election of officers.
Thanks to International Director
Joe Campisi for his great organisation of the combined Concord, Burwood,
Strathfield meeting last Wednesday. It was an excellent presentation from
Duncan’s depleted but very capable team, and they were very appreciative of
the gifts of inscribed pewter goblets as a memento of their visit. In
addition the room was pleasantly comfortable in temperature and ambience,
the service excellent, and the food very good. Sounds like a good place to
hold a Rotary Club meeting to me ! Hmmmm…………
Now just for comparison, and to
show you all how important PP Euan is treating our major fundraiser on March
14th next year. Burwood is holding their "Big Ball", also at Le Montage, on
Feb 28th, two weeks before us. Their price is $110 per head all inclusive,
compared to our $75 all inclusive. And remember you will have at least a 1
in 200 chance for a $100 outlay to win a $29,000 Subaru Impreza, or an
overseas trip in our raffle. Pretty good odds in my book!!!. AND, don’t
forget Euan’s offer of ten (10) tickets for the price of NINE (9) for a
table booking. As Euan has said, and fairly in my view, we want our members
to come along, and bring there friends or colleagues, but NOT at an
exorbitant cost.
Sad news this week, when PP Brian
Hennell advised me of the death of past member PDG Bob Taylor (1982-83). As
of this writing I am unaware of funeral arrangements, but assume they will
be in Tuesday or Wednesday’s Herald. Respects and a short eulogy will be
paid to Bob at Wednesday’s meeting.
Thanks to Angelo Franco for
getting our "new trailerless high tech" Xmas raffle going. Please support
this raffle if you can and help if possible on weekends in the plaza.
Also in Angelo’s news we are now
supporters of The Rotary bowelscan program through both Strathfield
Pharmacies. A guest speaker on this lifesaving program will be provided
early next year.
Finally, advance notice of a real
treat. Due to my early departure for New Zealand on Wednesday morning
November 27th, the meeting will be chaired that evening, by President elect
Keith "elastic legs’ Stockall. Keith, Euan, Rick and Allan will be leaving
The next morning the 28th and we will all be riding in the Rotary organised
" Lake Taupo Cycle Classic" on the Saturday. We’ll all be back on Monday the
2nd, so you should still get your Snippets the next week, and we’ll all be
there for the elections and AGM.
Thats all I think folks
