Internet only version this week

Hi everybody. As you all realise this a strange week with a change of meeting time and location to Burwood tonite, and our MAJOR- MAJOR fun and fundraiser night on Friday. Accordingly considering numbers will be light at Burwood (I’m told 18 to 20), this edition of my report will only be distributed via the amazing Ray McCluskie prepared web site. A normal bulletin will appear next week, which I’m sure will be devoted to congratulating all the winners of prizes and auctions, and thanking all those who made Friday night happen. (This means I will have to be nice to PP Euan and not be too severe on his non appearance at Sunday’s big bike ride). Bulletin editor Vicki is unwell again so I thank Kevin Freund in advance for steeping into the breach again next week.

On the subject of GSE the Scottish team arrived on Friday, and they are truly lovely people with a very well developed dry sense of humour , they are very friendly, and unlike other recent teams very well prepared for there tour.

On the subject of the moment, the fundraiser, I would like to thank Euan particularly, and also EVERY club member in advance, because we appear to have a sellout or close to it, and the car raffle tickets are now over 220, which means we should sell enough on the night to keep the raffle alive. This is GREAT news.

I think we have picked three worthy charities and I believe the presentation last Wednesday from Prof David Bennet and artist Penny Thwaites from The Westmead Children’s Hospital was absolutely fantastic.

And by the way each of our three charities The Children’s Medical Research Council, The Infants home at Ashfield, and The Children’s hospital are supporting us by taking a table.

On other fundraising matters the organisation of the fun run and bike ride is proceeding well, and in fact we have received our first entries this week, and Rick Collins, bless his marathon running sole made the trip to Warners Bay on Sunday and handed out over seven hundred more entry forms to the cycling participants. Warners Bay started out with five hundred entrants seven years ago and they had over sixteen hundred (yep 1600) last Sunday for an approx $40,000 make. Let’s hope we have a sunny day and five hundred riders at least.

Tony Lanzafame is progressing well with the Strathfield youth awards, with more details to follow next week, and a number of MUNA applications have been received from Meriden. Finally please do not forget your Bowelscan kits this month and assist Community Service Director in pathology runs when you can.

I look forward to seeing many of you, and your friends as well, on Friday evening, and I wish you well in the raffle (but I hope to win the car), Best of all, I will have very little to say on the night, it will be in the capable hands of John Leftwich to run the evening with I’m sure a little prompting from Euan in the background.

Finally, PLEASE consider attending at least the conference sessions at the upcoming Homebush District Conference. The way the numbers are going (I think they need Euan) the conference will be run at a substantial loss and we ALL might end up paying (in our future dues) anyway

Steve
