Steve’s Snippets

Welcome back after what I hope was an enjoyable long weekend.

I for one am almost happy to be back at work after three days of painting, sanding and digging, along with the odd bike ride.

Tonight we welcome our zone ADG, Allan Sweet, from Padstow Rotary Club. I trust we will all be on our best behaviour and impress Allan with our Rotary knowledge, our friendship (that shouldn’t be a problem in Strathfield), and our commitment to the ideals of Rotary.

Two matters will have been discussed at our board meeting on Tuesday evening.

The first and by far most important, will be the problem with the catering at the bowling club. The current situation of genuine complaints by many members is the worst I’ve known it, and I will be personally discussing the matter directly with the club.

Please be assured that one way or another the current unsatisfactory situation will not continue, but please be patient one more week until formal discussions with the club can be held and changes made.

The second matter, and one I consider important will be that of bulletin content.

Firstly let me say Vicki is doing a terrific job, secondly nobody else volunteered for the job, and thirdly writing copy and compiling information on a weekly deadline can be an onerous task.

I might also add that the joke in last week’s bulletin that seemed to have caused so much furore and e-mail discussion, I considered very tame and my wife and daughter, while not thinking it a particularly good joke, were not unduly offended by the fairly tame sexual reference.

The bulletin content will be left in the capable hands of Vicki, who I’m sure, though, in future, will be more conscious of some of members more conservative views, and the relatively wide distribution of our bulletin has, particularly in electronic form.

On a positive note, which is after all what we are about in our club aren’t we, Fundraising Committee Chairman Euan Watson gave his first of many information updates on our gala fundraiser last week.

I will be inviting Euan to talk about details and progress any time he wants to, and I’m sure he will be as effective with our "night for children" as he was for David’s conference organisation. Planning is also under way for next year’s fun run, and our inaugural "family bike ride", not forgetting Niall King’s Trish Foundation Golf Day in February.

Next week you’re in for a treat. Due to my short holiday in Perth from tomorrow (Thursday) to Tuesday, I won’t be writing this piece for the bulletin.

President-elect Keith has kindly agreed to step in with his first edition of "The Bikers Bits" I’m sure one of the issues he might be raising will be the upcoming board elections on Dec 4th.

Please give Keith your support for that night.

I do look forward to seeing many of you, however, at Mama Mia next Tuesday evening.

Finally, don’t forget to put in your diary our Xmas party at Angelo’s on the Bay at Cabarita on Dec 11th. There will be plenty of room, please consider bringing your non Rotary friends, and I promise to try and make it an enjoyable and memorable evening.

Remember fellows, ‘sow the seeds of love’, without bitterness and hurtful criticism, and remember we are ALL volunteers doing our best for the ideals of Rotary

Steve
