Steve’s Snippets 4 September 2002

What an amazing organisation Rotary is. On Monday night Pres elect Keith, International Director Joe, Secretary Shane, and Carol, and Denise and I attended the Farewell to the District 9690 GSE leaving for D1230 Scotland in two weeks time.

None of us really wanted to be there; it was a Monday night; we were all tired from long days at work, and Keith had already been to The Parramatta Club meeting that lunchtime, but we ALL had a great time. We were invigorated by the professionalism, humour, dedication and friendliness of four young Australians, lead by an equally enthusiastic Rotarian in Pres Allan Ezzy of Holroyd, who are about to embark on "the trip of a lifetime".

I know our club has been an excellent supporter of the GSE program over many years, both in terms of providing excellent team leaders and sponsoring team members (as is the case with this exchange); but even after many years’ involvement with this program, it is still wonderful to see the positive effects that Rotary and its programs can have. I hope you agree!

I’m sure this view applies to those of you who have been involved with Youth Exchange, RYLA, MUNA or Interact and of course Pride of Workmanship.

Speaking about Pride of Workmanship, as you all know vocational director Keith has been asking for nomination forms for some weeks now. This week NEEDS to be the last week for nominations because of the need to contact recipients and organise the function.

Accordingly, I am hoping that you will provide Keith with a flood of nominations this week. Surely, you have been impressed with the work ethics of a shopkeeper, a salesperson, a tradesman, even the work of a client or someone at the Council.

Pride of workmanship is one of the things we do very well at Strathfield, and with the effort of Keith Byrn, Graham True and Brian Johnston I’m sure this will be another great year.

Have a great week everybody, and, considering this is the first meeting of Spring, maybe it’s time to "smell the flowers" created from the seeds of love you have sown.

(Yes, I’m sorry that was very corny, but I do have to work with this theme somehow during the year)

Steve
