As Rotarians we spend a
lot of time organising how to raise funds, a lot of time raising them and
we get the fun bit of presenting the cheques. Rarely do we get to see what
our hard and dedicated work achieves.
Well tonite we do !
Our visit to the
Children’s Hospital at Westmead will focus partly on the art for healing
program we donated to in March this year, and partly on The Rotary Wing,
for which we would have provided funds some ten or twelve years ago. I
hope we all enjoy our visit and appreciate the good work we are capable of
doing by assisting others in need.
As I explained last week
we are STILL in negotiations with the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA)
regarding the proposed route of the fun run. They are proposing to us a
COMPLETELY different route to that of the last five or six years, and
understandably this is causing us some difficulties. Rod MacDougall is
assisting with negotiations and we are hopeful of a final layout this
week.
On the subject of SOPA
and Rod, thanks to his persistence and good relations with traffic
coordinating people it looks like SOPA may well pay the bill for the RTA
accredited marshals we had to pay for, at the bike ride in early MAY. If
this comes to fruition we will be able to donate $7,000 instead of $6,000
to the Children’s Medical Research Institute.
Next week will be a
normal meeting, and following that on the 18th will be our bike ride
appreciation evening for our volunteers and sponsors, as well as
presenting the above mentioned cheque to CMRI.
That fellows will be my
last meeting as our meeting of June 25th is transferred to the changeover
on the 27th.
Consequently, even though
we are still busy there are less things to concern my board and myself for
future activities, and heres the good news for me and you, SHORTER
SNIPPETS columns (pun intended !)
Roger Vince said to me
this week I bet your glad its now June and you're on your home stretch.
Well Yes and No ! I’ve enjoyed almost every minute, worked through the
“challenges” and appreciated greatly the dedication and interest in Rotary
our members have.
I’ll have more time soon
I suppose but I will miss being right in the centre of the action, as I’m
sure many past presidents will agree.
Anyway that’s enough,
lets enjoy the Children’s Hospital visit.
