Steve’s Snippets 2 April 2003

Tonite, we welcome a large group of visitors to our Club, Firstly our partners for I’m sure a great night of rotary. In addition I welcome the incoming Probus Club executives from our local area, and of course representatives from The Infants Home Ashfield, The Children’s Medical Research institute and The Art for Healing Program from Westmead Children’s Hospital. And finally I welcome our District Governor John Wakefield and his wife Susan, and our honorary member and auctioneer / MC par excellence John Leftwich and his wife Sue.

The purpose of most of the evening of course, apart from the excellent guest speakers, is to distribute some of the funds received from our Gala fundraising night. Funds will go to the above mentioned organisations as well as our contribution to the "Polio Eradication campaign", about which DG John will explain further.

As a reminder which I’m sure you don’t need but I probably do, PLEASE DON’T COME next week. Apart from the normal board meeting next Tuesday evening the next normal meeting is transferred to a partners night at our Golf Club on Monday April 14th, followed by the Strathfield youth presentation night on Wednesday April 16th.

Planning is going well for our Anzac Day Breakfast at Cape Cabarita, this year under the superb organisation of Brian and Jenny Hennell and Keith Stockall, Rick Collins, Rod McDougall and Kevin Freund are well advanced on the amazing amount of beauracratic planning required for our inaugural bike ride, now only a month away.

While we’re on dates Keith and I have agreed on Friday June 27th for the club changeover, which will be at the Strathfield Golf Club. I think that means you only have to put up with me for another 11 meetings after tonite. (Is that cheering I hear ???). The district Changeover will be the following night (June 28th) at Rooty Hill RSL Convention Centre to welcome in Warwick Tester from Holroyd, and thank John for a great effort.

Congratulations to Janelle Watson for an excellent talk on her life and career last week. I know these segments are extending past the original five minutes envisaged however, they provide an excellent insight on our members lives and careers.

Planning is also going well with the combined Burwood, Concord and Strathfield Services awards (Police, ambulance, Fire and SES workers) with Keith Byrn already receiving a number of nominations for our segment (fire and SES)

Finally and I know this sounds like a broken record but I had the misfortune to play Graham True again last week. Yes we were beaten again, and yes he hit me again. I’m thinking of having a target symbol printed on my T shirt. The good news, tennis is having a break for a few weeks, which will give me time to recover, and think of something else to write about "Truey" (flattering of course)

Have a great week, and thanks for all your support of our busy schedule.

See you Monday week.

Steve.
