A
great meeting last week by all accounts. My thanks and
congratulations to Brian Johnson for his initial stint at keeping
members under control!
The club has purchased a third shelterbox. This has been earmarked
to provide relief to those in need following the recent tsunami in
the Solomon Islands. Rotary Shelterboxes are now recognised
worldwide as an outstanding success in providing rapidly
deployable disaster relief.
The arrival in July of our incoming youth exchange student Laura
Fleurquin from France is now confirmed. Paolo Giammarco will
provide full details. Thanks to Brian and Janet Johnson and Keith
and Sue Byrn who have agreed to host, and to Roger Vince who has
arranged for Laura to attend Meriden School.
A reminder to provide Ray Wilson with the names and contact
details of those you recommend for invitation to our information
night on 9 May. All members are requested to be in attendance
May promises to be a busy month – with plenty of opportunities for
partners to attend Rotary and I hope we will see an excellent
response. Please consult the program for details. Please note that
it has been necessary to move the Youth Achievement Night to 23
May.
The meeting for 30 May will be essentially a fun and fellowship
night with a special opportunity for all of us to say farewell to
Bob Templeman as he leaves us to join Springwood Rotary.
My thanks to Bob for his term as bulletin editor. This will be his
last issue.. Please see new bulletin editor Angelo Franco if you
have contributions to make.
Tony Lanzafame is still seeking good used clothing for
distribution to drought affected families in New South Wales. The
deadline for collection is end of May.
Next Wednesday is Anzac Day and there will be no club meeting. I
look forward to joining many members and their families and
friends at the Cape Cabarita Anzac Day Breakfast, organised this
year by David Croft.
Enjoy Rotary …
by getting
involved!
