A very special Strathfield
Rotary welcome to our guests this evening for this our fourth
Police Officer of the Year Awards. We are particularly pleased
that Commissioner Ken Moroney is again able to be with us and to
present awards. The awards are our way of saying "thank you" to
the officers serving in this area and we hope you and your
family and friends enjoy the night. Thanks to Kevin Beltrame and
his team for organising a great evening.
Maurie Moroney would have been smiling from on high at last
week's meeting. The Years 9 and 10 girls from Strathfield Girls
High certainly did themselves proud as they presented their
literature reviews. There can be no doubt that many of our young
people retain a strong love of books and appreciation of good
writing despite an ever widening range of modern distractions.
Thanks to those members fortunate enough to be present for
providing an attentive audience. Congratulations to Bradley
Ayres for organising what we we hope will become an annual
event.
Euan is doing well and is very positive about the course of the
illness that is keeping him sidelined. Please see his letter
later in the bulletin.
Thanks to George Hallworth who has kindly offered to assist Eve
Dutton with a project to erect Strathfield Rotary signs in the
community.
We are talking to Burwood Rotary about the possibility of a
joint meeting. And Burwood have invited us to their annual
Melbourne Cup night which from all accounts is a fun night. More
details soon.
It was great to see Brian Johnson back in the cycling saddle
after some months. We will be considering, however, whether his
new knee gives him an unfair advantage.
Bulletin Editor Angelo Franco's extended tour of duty is almost
at an end. Please contact Brian Johnson or me if you would like
to take on the role, even if only for a few months. Only basic
computer skills are required. Angelo's last bulletin will be in
two weeks.
