I am fairly confident that
not many members were aware that the Model T Ford contained an
automatic gearbox – and that the basic design of the transmission
in the modern vehicle is quite similar. Henry Ford was a
remarkable man. On behalf of the club, thanks to Tim Wynn Jones
for a great talk last week, and for making the effort to bring his
restored Model T, plus a cutaway engine (which I know was quite
heavy, since I helped him move it!) and many other components.
The bulletin lives – and
new editor Bob Templeman is now up and running (with a little help
from Angelo Franco). Many thanks Bob for taking on yet another job
within Rotary.
This week I attended a
further meeting to provide community input to the state
government's strategic planning initiative, StatePlan. The meeting
was attended by the deputy premier and the government seems very
keen to obtain the views of service organisations like Rotary.
There was discussion on how government/community groups
partnerships might work and how organisations like ours can
provide an effective link to the community. The plan is due for
completion end October 2006.
The Strathfield Spring
Fair will be held this Sunday in Strathfield Park and the club
barbecue will be in action. The fair is well promoted and attended
and last year we ran out of sausages. Shirley Del Prado has
increased the size of the order and with more sausages will need
more helpers. Please give her your support.
Ray Wilson has kindly
stepped forward to breathe life into our membership development
activities. He has some great ideas, which will involve all of us,
and planning is proceeding.
The McDonalds customers
amongst us would have noticed the tray mats in use in many
restaurants over the last few weeks with a special design
promoting Rotary. McDonalds are an ARCAP (Australian Rotarians
Corporate Alliance Program) partner and this campaign promotes
Rotary to nearly 7 million Australians!
Enjoy Rotary …
by getting
involved!
