Our
Anzac Day Breakfast held at Cape Cabarita was once again a memorable
and very fitting commemoration of this very important Australian
national day.
David and Margaret Croft and their band of helpers ensured that the
record 130 people (including many Cape Cabarita residents) who
braved the rain stayed dry and were able to enjoy the traditional
breakfast and appreciate the proceedings that followed.
Harley Tarrant's recounting of the story of his uncle who fought at
Gallipoli in 1915 and in the Battle of Pozieres in France in 1916,
and who was subsequently killed in action, was a highlight of the
morning and especially moving.
My thanks to Brian Hennell who presented the reading and to Ian
Albertson for arranging the outstanding rendition by Homebush Boys
High School student David Brimfield of The Last Post and Reveille.
Our busiest director at the moment is unquestionably Bradley Ayres.
Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA). Rotary Youth Enrichment
program (RYPEN) and the Youth Achievement Awards are all in the
final planning phases.
Bradley can be justifiably proud of our youth achievements this
year. In total over 50 students from local schools will participate
in or be recognised as part of just these three projects.
A reminder that the Youth Achievement Awards, held in conjunction
with Strathfield Council have been moved to 23 May.
Club changeover this year will be held on Friday 29 June 2007 at the
golf club. Dress will be optional black-tie. Please reserve the date
in your diaries.
Next week we hold our second information night. It is not too late
to nominate someone for attendance –please contact Ray Wilson or
Niall King as soon as possible. All members are requested to be in
attendance – the dress standard is jacket and tie.
My thanks to Angelo Franco who takes over this week as bulletin
editor. Please give him your support.
