President's Pieces

20 October 2004

Greetings Fellows,

Just prior to writing this report I witnessed the greatest motorcycle racer in history win his fourth world title in a row (as well as this years Australian Grand Prix).Italian Valentino Rossi must surely go down in history as the best ever.

Perhaps Bulletin Editor, Angelo Franco (also Italian) might pick up the pace and challenge Valentino?

Last weeks guest speaker, Sensei Tom Cullen, held everyone’s attention with his stories on martial arts and how in particular he felt about training children not to fight but to defend themselves and to think in a positive manner. Sensei Tom certainly gets my vote of approval with his approach to young people and his unique training methods that will hopefully produce some decent young people who will set examples to others in this sometimes crazy mixed up world.

Don’t forget next weeks Historical Melbourne Cup night that Ray McCluskie and Harley Tarrant in particular have put so much effort into. This is a partner’s night and is designed around having a bit of fun. Your MC for the evening will be John Leftwich, so everyone be prepared for a great night.

Last Thursday we saw the first of the reformed District Golf Tournaments. Ray Wilson and his trusty team did a sensational job. The only disappointment being a lack of interest from other clubs in the District. After talking to DG Lloyd Roever at the trophy presentations, Lloyd has assured me that he will push the event and give it plenty of publicity for next year. The event was won by Strathfield Club  and the Man of the Tournament Award went to Peter Foss.

As you will all know the event was in memory of the late Dr. John Taylor and it was both touching and wonderful to see John’s wife Jo and the family in attendance for the presentations.

Well done to everyone concerned with the organization of this event.

I  am looking forward to seeing everyone this week at “The Melbourne Cup”,

“MORE NEXT WEEK”

and until then, LET’S CELEBRATE ROTARY,

President Keith
