President's Pieces

8th December 2004

Greetings Fellows

With the AGM scheduled for this Wednesday I was stunned to be told before the start of last weeks meeting that the Golf Club was unavailable to us this week. Apparently someone in our Club had been informed last August but the message had not been passed on.

This led to Tony Lanzafame performing a miracle in a matter of minutes in obtaining the Strathfield Tennis & Recreation Club for our AGM – Well done Tony.

There is a bistro available on the night for everyone to purchase their own dinner, there will be no dinner charge from Rotary.

A mention also of Paul Giammarco who is doing a great job organising both the Children’s and the Members & Partners Christmas parties.

Well done boys, you make life a lot easier.

Last Friday evening Sue and I attended the President’s Christmas meeting at Penrith Panthers where DG Lloyd Roever appealed for financial assistance from all clubs following a request from DG Michael Lirio of District 3820 in the Philippines. Several provinces in their district have been struck by multiple typhoons resulting in the death of several hundred people with many more missing. Several towns are isolated and the devastation is extreme. Support is needed immediately. I have pledged a thousand dollars from our Club, Burwood Club are willing to send the money that has been pledged immediately, and will collect it from the individual Clubs at a later date.

On the 15/12 at the Children’s Christmas party Christine Roever will attend our Club for a very brief talk to inform us of the inaugural “Family of Rotary Picnic Day” to be held at Bicentennial Park on Sunday 27/2/2005.

A special thank you from me to those Members who have improved in attendance and for the decrease in the number of non apologies. Although we still had 4 non apologies last week, most members are keeping up their commitment to attendance.

I spoke to Shirley Del Prado on Friday. As you may know Shirley has had to temporarily relocate to Canberra for work purposes. Shirley sends her greetings to all of her mates at Strathfield and will be back with us very soon.

Thank you again to Bob Templeman who did a wonderful job as Bulletin Editor in Angelo’s absence and welcome back Angelo.

That’s all for now,

“MORE NEXT WEEK”

and until then, LET’S CELEBRATE ROTARY – TOGETHER.

President Keith
