President's Pieces

8 September 2004

Greetings Fellows,

Another interesting guest speaker last week. Bob Jury spoke on property auctions and from my observations everyone present was impressed.

This brings me to thank once again Richard Horwood who has taken on the job of programmes and is doing an excellent job.

DG Lloyd Roever has requested for each member to lobby their local State MP to persuade Bob Carr to support the RI Convention in Sydney in June 2012. This would give local Clubs an amazing opportunity to attend an International Convention without the travelling costs.

The convention would also generate several millions of dollars into Sydney so we should all be supporting RI in this venture.

On Friday evening I attended a zone Presidents meeting at Bankstown Sports Club. Zone Chairman, John Heslop chaired the meeting and several interesting items came up at the meeting and I will introduce you to these as the weeks progress.

One of the main items spoken about was that of exchange students. If any member is willing to host an exchange student for a time please see me for further details.

Congratulations to Kevin Beltrame who has organized for five young people to attend RYLA. This is a wonderful Rotary initiative and as it’s name suggests is an enriching and rewarding experience for those who attend. We will have our five RYLARIANS address the Club at an appropriate date.

This weeks guest speaker is Tony Stewart, local Member for Bankstown who will speak on his recent trek on the Kokoda Trail to support father Chris Riley’s “Youth off the Streets” organisation. This is an optional partner’s night for those who would like to attend.

Tony will accept on the night, a cheque from our Club to support Youth off the Streets.

Don’t forget members, Christmas cards are available from Alan Petersen.

“MORE NEXT WEEK”

and until then, LET’S CELEBRATE ROTARY,

President Keith
