President's Pieces

6 April 2005

Greetings Fellows,

Last week we were addressed by Helen Griffith, the CEO of Cystic Fibrosis NSW who informed us of the wonderful work carried out by this group. As is the case with many similar organizations they are constantly trying to raise funds to aid research and to assist sufferers of this tragic disease.

I am however proud to say that the profits raised at our upcoming “WSM Bike the Park” event will go directly to this great organization.  So Fellows if you are called upon to give assistance in the running of this event at Bicentennial Park in May please give it your full support. Our hard working team of organizers has already done most of the difficult groundwork and we all just need to give them a few hours of our time to assist wherever possible on the day. PLEASE make an effort to be there.

Last Thursday night I was pleased to attend an “Australian Citizenship Ceremony” at the invitation of Strathfield Council, to say a few words on behalf of Rotary. There were some 90 “new” citizens pledging their allegiance to Australia on the night. Also attending were local Members of Parliament. Members of the Clergy and the local Police Area Command.

The ceremony was capably led by our own Bill Carney, Mayor of Strathfield. A wonderful evening was had by all who attended.

Don’t forget Fellows, the Strathfield Council Youth Awards are being held next week (13th April) here at the Golf Club. This is a partner’s night and we would like to see this evening well attended to support the younger members of our community

That’s all for now, more next week and until then,

“LET’S CELEBRATE ROTARY”

President Keith
