President's Pieces

22 October 2003

The PAST Presidents Piece - or - (The return of Snippets)

Hi all, and greetings from President Keith who is unable to prepare his usual column due to distance, hypothermia saddle soreness and plain tiredness.

As this is being written on Sunday evening Pres Keith and Lillian have just completed a 200km (yep you read it right) ride from St Kilda, down to Geelong and Queenscliff, across Port Phillip Bay to Sorrento (on a ferry of course), and then back to St Kilda. This was a 10 - 11 hour ride in VERY cold and wet conditions, battling a head wind for much of the way. I’m sure all of us congratulate them for achieving such a feat. And the reason I’m writing this, keen cyclist that I am, I have to admit I couldn’t have done it

The cycling group (still 8 – 10 strong) are in training however because the “Sydney to the Gong” is in two weeks, and yours truly is trying to emulate the very svelte Bill Carney and try and keep up with some very fast riding by starting on “Weight watchers” and getting rid of 25 excess kilos.

Anyway back to Keith.

I have specifically asked to sincerely thank Brian Johnson, Graham True and Arjun Jaganathan for their excellent organisation of last weeks Pride of workmanship awards. It was indeed a great night and John Murray was an excellent speaker Thanks also to the Rotarians who nominated the awardees, from my perspective it’s amazing to see what a little bit of recognition and a small plaque can achieve for a persons confidence and self esteem. Also sincere thanks to Auctioneer extraordinaire Sal Tosto and those Rotarians who donated auction prizes.

That’s about all from me I’m afraid, being a Past President, I know very little about current events in the club, but I’ sure President “bow legs” Keith will update us all on Wednesday evening about our future plans

PP Steve.

PS Sorry guys there is one more important thing, and its not the Lion King, (although I still have some tickets)…..

Its GSE (Group Study Exchange)

That’s right NOW is the time we need to be looking for that special person in our community who will benefit from this truly worthwhile Group Study Exchange program.

What about our policeman of the year; a great teacher at St Pats, Meriden, Strathfield Girls or Homebush Boys; or one of council’s young managers. Surely WE CAN find a good candidate to put up.

Mary Romanous our last successful GSE candidate has benefited amazingly from the experience, and our club has a great record with this program.  So……. Get out there please !!!!!! APPLICATIONS CLOSE SOON.
