Hello fellows,
Before I forget I will start
with a reminder that the Salvation Army’s Red Shield appeal will be on
Sunday 23 May. The Rotary Club of Strathfield has traditionally been a
strong supporter of the Red Shield Appeal and I encourage as many members as
possible to assist on this day.
I am writing this piece on
Mothers’ Day and my wife and two daughters have just returned from
participating in the annual Mother’s Day Classic, which is a walk against
cancer and a fundraising event for breast cancer research. The event is a
4km & 8 km walk around the Domain and Botanical Gardens.
I am reminded that one of the
District’s goals this year was to assist the Millennium Foundation for
ovarian cancer research. Therefore I propose the funds raised from the
raffle this week and next week 19 May, which is also a partners night, will
be dedicated to the Millennium Foundation for research into ovarian cancer.
I will present the funds to the District Governor at the Presidents’ meeting
on 21 May.
Please note there has been a
change to our speakers program for 2 June. We had hoped to have a cosmetic
surgeon talk to us however he has not been able to make it on that date and
we have therefore arranged for Wendy McLachlan from the Brain Injury
Association to talk to us.
As I reported to you last
week, Eve Dutton has been suffering from Pneumonia. I have spoken to Eve
during the past week and she is on the slow road to recovery but it may be
another week or two before she is well enough to go out in the cold evening
air.
At last reports Rod McDougall is still in Chicago
anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grand child. Perhaps it has
happened by now and his daughter was able to celebrate Mothers Day as a
mother.
Have a successful week.
Keith
