October 2003
Good
evening fellows and guests.
I hope you all enjoyed the “holiday “weekend just
past and if you are Rugby League fan that you enjoyed the grand final game
on Sunday night.
This evening we welcome Julie Erskine, Clinical
Psychologist, to our club. Julie is no stranger to our club as she has
visited us previous occasions and is also mother of Camille Erskine, who
is the Ballerina student that this club has supported in the past and is
currently dancing with a theatre company in Prague.
You will recall I mentioned we had received
permission from Dan Murphy’s to have a BBQ at their store one or two
Saturdays a month. I’m now pleased to advise we have received permission
from Strathfield Council, thanks to representations by Shirley and plan
drawing by Keith Byrn, to allow us to use part of the footpath to park our
BBQ trailer.
The month of October is Vocation Month and of course
we will be having our Pride of Workmanship awards next week at La Montage.
Vocational Service Director, Brian Johnson tells me he has received a
number of nominations and is in the final stages of completing
preparations for the night, which promises to be another successful Pride
of Workmanship awards evening.
Don’t forget there will be a Group Study Exchange
(GSE) team departing for Houston in April 2004. The District is seeking
applications from suitable candidates in the age group of 25 to 40. The
GSE program provides outstanding business and professional people an
opportunity to study their profession in another country
A reminder to amend your diary for the car rally to
Domenico and Joanna Alvaro’s house at Bowral, this event has been
transferred from 26 October to 9 November 2003. The change of date was
necessary due to a requirement for Keith Byrn to attend President Elect
training on that day.
A comment on social activities. Over recent weeks we
have tried to organise some social outings, such as a pizza night and
various theatre group bookings and received little or no response. It
takes some effort to put these together and is a little frustrating when
they are not supported. One of the reasons for these social events is to
enhance the Rotary Family, so if there are activities members wish to be
organised, please let PP Steve Taylor know.
Have a good week.
Keith
