President Usha's Notes
19 May 2021
Dear fellows,
"Hard work never brings
fatigue. It brings satisfaction."
PM of India Narendra Modi
National
Volunteering Week is here with the theme Recognise, Reconnect and Reimagine.
"Given the year we've had, I can't think of a better message" says RI
Director-Elect Jessie Harman. "National Volunteering Week is the
perfect
time for Rotarians to recognise the important role that volunteers play in our
communities. It's an opportunity to reconnect with members to ensure they're
involved and having fun . . ."
An interesting angle on the four way test by PDG Martin
Postic. "In our contentious society, I see friends who are members of Rotary use
The Four-Way Test to support opposing political and social arguments . . . which
leads me to this basic premise: The Four-Way Test is a mirror, not a window".
Yes, indeed, the four way test is not to judge others, but see ourselves in
this mirror.

Club News and
Events Coming up:
The
50th Anniversary
is our next upcoming
big event and now we have an attendance exceeding our expectations. Well done
team (PPs Roger Vince, David Croft, Peter Manenti, Rod McDougall, Raymond
McCluskie, Rick Vosila, Alexey Prokopenko, Ying Ho and Andrew Aravanis). Great
thinking and great effort. Amazing program for the evening with great fellowship
from old times, speakers, music, exotic food, surprising glimpses of old photos
and our fabulous MC Rick Vosila.
The Youth Awards
are set for 18th June by the Awards Committee in consultation with Strathfield
Council. Ed Dunlop and his team (Peter Smith, Arie Pappas, Steve Argyris,
Bradley Ayres) are making good progress and nominations are coming together.
The Changeover
will be held on Saturday 26th June. Please reserve the date. I hope the
Directors and committee chairs are working on their reports.
Our last Board
meeting of the year next month will be a joint one with the existing and
incoming Board. Please bring to attention any issues or matters of interest.
A visit to Mirvac,
Olympic Park to view the built to rent apartments has been arranged
by Steven Argyris for Friday, 28th May morning. He will discuss the time of
visit at the meeting.
Thanks to many of
you who have contributed generously to the call for emergency relief work for
essential Covid19 supplies to India from Thaya Ponniah. Your generous
contributions will be appreciated by many people who may not know us but
will be thankful for the help they receive.
Strathfield Football Club,
has reached out to us to seek out volunteers to assist with ground official
duties during matches on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are interested, please
contact Davide Graniero on 0414 816 141.
Homebush Probus
club will be enjoying a picnic at the Auburn Botanical Gardens on coming
Thursday, 20th May in the morning and this will be followed by lunch at Auburn
Tennis Club. Feel free to join our friendly group and contact PP Raymond
McCluskie for more details.
Last week we had this opportunity to hear from Kate Domeney,
the manager of the program called Fresh Foods for Families. What a simple
and wonderful way to inspire and encourage school children and communities to
grow fresh food.
This week we will hear from Harry Kimble about
Travel adventures to Easter Island. And Sergeant Nick has this to
say "Members and guests are invited to demonstrate their sartorial elegance
(or otherwise) by wearing their favourite fashion items to the meeting". I
guess, travel attire may be an option, considering we have a virtual visit to
Easter Island? Think carefully folks - hefty fines for disappointing our
Sergeant.
Look forward
to our meeting
