President Usha's Notes
7 April 2021
Dear fellows,
Without Strategy,
Execution is aimless; without Execution, Strategy is useless.
Morris Chang*
Today (Wednesday 7 April) we take these
words into consideration as we discuss our new draft Strategic Plan, a plan
that will give us a path, a guideline and clear goals for many years to
come. This plan has been in the making for some time with a committee of
knowledgeable and experienced minds sharing and comparing ideas to bring
this about. I encourage members to attend and participate actively in the
discussion.
Rotary and United Nations partnership
On
10th April 2021, Rotary International commemorates its 75 years of history with
the United Nations (UN). Since
helping to charter the UN in 1945, Rotary members and the UN have worked
together toward peace and addressing humanitarian issues worldwide. At the heart
of the UN are
17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) and this event is designed to inspire
action in
support of the SDGs. Rotary members carry out humanitarian projects in their
seven areas of focus that address many of the same issues as the SDGs and
frequently partner with other organizations as a way of maximizing
resources, increasing the project’s impact and ensuring its longevity.
RDU magazine
The March
issue of RDU magazine has been out and I hope you have had a chance to browse
through. Always concerned about the issue of disposable waste, one article was
quick to catch my attention. In OUR EARTH OUR HOME, Jonathan
Engels, asks us to now to take the important next step up from recycling to reusing
and repurposing things. Recycling was a good step up from
rubbishing, but today we need to do more. Jonathan cites seven simple
reasons for doing this - cost saving, energy saving, reducing pollution, quality
over quantity, being more responsible, lots of fun and creating a friendlier
attitude. You may find another feature / story that catches your attention - it
takes less than an hour to read the magazine and be informed about Rotary
stories of our region.
