Rotary Club of Strathfield

 President Electric's Lines

Wednesday 29 April 2009

At the last board meeting on the 21st some final decisions were made for this Rotary year – all is on track.

Our information night held last Wednesday was a great success thanks to Ray and his group of knowledgeable speakers. Our guests and current Rotarians left the meeting well informed and hopefully we gain new Rotarians.

Thursday I attended the fund raiser for junior golf – I am pleased to say that Ray and his golf buddies raised in excess of $11,000 – what a great effort.

A big thankyou to P.D.G. David Croft and the Cape Cabarita crew for a moving ANZAC day commemoration. Reflections from Margery Foss, readings by Les Norman and David Brimfield’s stirring rendition on the trumpet all topped off with a wonderful breakfast. Fellowship between Strathfield Club, Breakfast Point Club and Cape Cabarita community made for an excellent morning. On a lighter note I trust that Jackie Ruston and Peter Foss have recovered from their little dip!

Tonight’s Youth Achievement Awards in conjunction with Strathfield Council, will see our youth being recognised for their accomplishments; it is good to be able to highlight the positive aspects of our young people – we have many of them in our community.

It is the last night for you to return your nomination form for our Service Above Self Awards, if you have forgotten to bring it this evening see Secretary Allan for a form.

In the mail this week the club received information from the Rotary Club of Berry – Gerringong about the Celtic Festival on Saturday 23rd May. The proceeds of this day will go to the Shoalhaven Linear Accelerator Appeal. This cause is close to our family as my sister in law has had to travel from the Shoalhaven to Wollongong for radiation therapy – a machine is much needed in this area.

My final note…… I am so disappointed with the lack of response to date for our Bush Dance. When this idea was first muted the indication from club members was quite positive so P.P. Peter has spent much time and energy organising a great night – small costs, lots of fun to be had. If the response has not improved by the end of tonight’s meeting the Bush Dance will be cancelled and the club will be out of pocket for the cost of the band.

And remember:  Fun and fellowship in Rotary
