Wednesday 23 July 2008

Looking back on World Youth Day wasn’t it refreshing to see so many smiling faces on the youth of the world, young people of all nations coming together and enjoying life – perhaps future Rotarians.

Last Wednesday it was great to hear a little bit of history first hand on the trials and tribulations of sheering in country Australia.

Brad and Cheryl popped in the other afternoon and I would like to report on how well Cheryl is looking. She has had a few stints in hospital and her treatment is going to plan.

Fellows, I have now realised how the best laid plans don’t always work out, to date three meetings and none have finished on time – I will try to be pick up my act.

Secretary Allan is overseas at the moment and I would like to thank PP. Roger for stepping into the secretaries’ position. All invoices for dues not received by hand this week will be forwarded by post. Please ensure prompt payment so we can fulfil our obligations to RI.

Sunday 27th July is National Tree Day. This is Australia’s biggest community tree planting event. National Tree Day started in 1996 and more than 1.5 million volunteers have planted 11.5 million native trees and shrubs. Strathfield Council is celebrating this by having a tree planting at Hudson Park oval on the 27th; we will be doing the BBQ and if you can help see Shirley or myself.

Following our win last Saturday night against the Springboks it is very timely that tonight we will be hearing from George Ayoub, our own home grown international referee – welcome George.

Remember:  Fun and fellowship in Rotary
