Rotary Club of Strathfield

 President Electric's Lines

Wednesday 4 March 2009

Following last weeks meeting we now know to keep well weaponclear of Paul Martin our guest speaker – his array of weaponry on display was just a sample of his vast collection – all enjoyed his presentation. Read Peter's report (click) includes photos by PP Steve Taylor.

Probus logoWe welcomed two of our Probus Presidents as guests last week. Ken Goodrich from Strathfield and Doug Tindal from South Strathfield. Both the clubs meet monthly and there membership is made up of retired and semi retired professional or business people (and Rotarians past and present). These clubs have approximately thirty five members each and are male only clubs, there is also a female Probus club in Strathfield. Probus’ constitution does not allow for fund raising just fun with guest speakers and outings.

Elizabeth Farm 1825The commitment sheets for away meetings – Elizabeth Farm 8th April and OTEN 15th April – did not circulate to all last week. These nights are partners nights and it would be great to have a good roll up, so please make sure you have filled in the commitment sheet or contact Neil Kennan. Opposite is a painting of Elizabeth Farm in 1825

oscar statuetteThis coming Wednesday 4th March, as you are aware, there is no Rotary meeting. Next weekend is the district conference in the Hunter. There is only a small band of members and partners attending but we are all enthusiastic and looking forward to a very informative conference and a fun Saturday evenings dinner with the theme of ‘movie Oscars’.

Whilst mentioning the small number of Strathfield Rotarians attending the conference, I feel I should say I was extremely disappointed with the number of Rotarians that attended the ‘Trish Charity Dinner’ -this is a major event on our Rotary calendar. We had a good number of guests, good monies raised but only twenty eight Rotarians; I now understand how Peter Manenti felt last year. Please see what we can do for the rest of the Rotary year and in the future.

And remember:  Fun and fellowship in Rotary

President Grahame
