Grahame True with Penny

President 2008-9

Rotary Club of Strathfield

 President Electric's Lines

Wednesday 1 April 2009

At our last board meeting on the 17th March it was noted that members are now doing the right thing and apologising if unable to attend – excellent - more attendees would be great.

Unfortunately the board had to accept the resignation of Joe Campisi due to work and family commitments. I reassured Joe he is welcome back at any time.

Peter Van der Sleeson reported he has R.Y.P.E.N. in hand for the week in May; the board has ok’d the support of two attendees. On the international front Janelle’s budget has been topped up with $1200 for another shelter box and in lieu of our World Vision commitment we decided to donate $500 to a very worthwhile cause, Doctors Without Borders. Kevin Freund reported to the board that his P.E.T.S. weekend was very useful and he is on track for his year.

Last week the R.Y.L.A. presentation from Maria and Vanessa showed us yet another reason as to why we support our youth programmes – what excellent ambassadors they are.

I would like to make an apology for the unfortunate timetabling of the next two transfer meetings – Elizabeth Farm 8th April; OTEN 15th April. However both these venues will be well worth the effort and I thank Neil and Peter for arranging them.

Don’t forget to give some thought to our ‘Service above Self Award’, David Croft will be asking the club members for a worthwhile recipient, please give him your ideas.

Tony Lanzafame is again this year heading up our Youth Achievement Awards along with Strathfield Council. Tony has spent much time liaising with local youth groups, schools and council to decide on the appropriate choices, a difficult task. This will be a night to reward young people and should be enjoyed by Rotarians and partners.

Tonight we welcome Sister Josephine to talk on St Marys House and its welfare work.

And remember:  Fun and fellowship in Rotary

President Grahame
