Strathfield Rotary Club has
done it again. Another successful (5th Year) Police Officer of the
Year Awards night, thanks to PP Keith Byrn and his committee. I was
pleased to hear the congratulatory comments from various police
officers and families who attended on the night.
Both Winners unfortunately were
not in attendance to receive their awards. However a re-enactment
was staged on Friday at the police Riot Squad headquarters,
Homebush, where Commissioner Moroney and myself, together with
Acting. Superintendent Peter Thorn from Burwood LAC were able to
present the awards to the winners ( Constable Paul Wearne , Burwood
LAC and Constable Alannah Davies, Flemington LAC).
PS: The water cannon is most
impressive.
A very productive day at the MS
Memorial Garden project on Saturday, thanks to the help of some 8 or
so Rotarians. We were over-fed morning tea and lunch by Patricia
Giammarco, her mum and Pats’ daughter Catherine. Well done all
round.
Also the BBQ at Ashfield
Infants was well attended by our members. Exposure, exposure,
exposure of Rotary in the community.
PP Bob Templeman’s triple
bypass operation was successfully carried out at Westmead Private
Hospital on Friday last. I hope to have more news on Bobs’ recovery
by this Wednesday nights meeting.
I was saddened to hear that
Alan Viney, President of Strathfield Golf Club, passed away suddenly
last Tuesday. Strathfield Golf Club has generously sponsored our
Rotary Club, through Alan’s efforts throughout the years.
Welcome back Secretary Alan
Petersen after a short hospitalisation and recuperation.
LAURA’S CULTURAL EXPERIENCE.
Rotarians will be pleased to
know that Laura was happy with her Meriden exam results in both
mathematics and English.
Next Friday, 31st August, Meriden is holding
its annual Carnivale. Plenty of fine food and fare to be had.
“Carnivale 2007” will be held from 3.00pm till 8.30pm for those who
would like to attend.
Remember “Service Above Self”.
