One could only be inspired by the wonderful list of accomplishments attained by the recipients of this year’s Strathfield Youth Achievement Awards. The presentation last week, being a joint initiative of Strathfield Council and our club, once again demonstrated and recognised the important contributions young people are making within our community, consistently achieving in all aspects of everyday life, be it educational, sporting, cultural or community service.

It was an honour to have The Mayor of Strathfield, Councillor Tony Marourn in attendance to present the awards, ably assisted by Strathfield Council Events Coordinator Nicole Andary.

I would like to congratulate and thank Kevin Beltrame for all the hours he contributed to making the evening a great success along with assistance he received from Tony & Connie Lanzafame, Bradley Ayers, Trevor Duxbury, Rod McDougall, Connie Galletta, Keith Stockall, George Helou and Dave Martin.

The Anzac Day Breakfast at Cape Cabarita, provided the opportunity to many residents to commemorate, reflect and give thanks for the men and women who have served our nation in the field of war. The event was superbly organised by David & Margaret Croft, with a wonderful contribution from Alison Duxbury and great support received from Peter & Anne Manenti, Steve & Denise Taylor, Roger & Janice Vince, Trevor & Nanette Duxbury, Leedy Watson, Keith Stockall, Peter Smith, Rod McDougall, Dave Martin, Niall King, George Helou and Angelo Franco.

A reminder that your vote for the Service Above Self Award needs to be returned to Secretary Charles Pitt no later than Wednesday 5th May.

I would like to encourage all members and partners to attend our meeting on May 12th, when Belinda Noonan will be our guest speaker. Belinda is better known as the editor of Scene Newspapers provided expert figure skating commentary during the recent Vancouver Winter Olympics and will share her experience with a behind the scenes look into what goes into making a great sporting event.

The 2010 Bowelscan Program has concluded in our district, with 98 kits being sold by our club’s five participating pharmacies. I would like to thank Suzanne Freund for co-ordinating the entire program for our club.

For those members not aware, Shirley Del Prado has spent the last week in Concord Hospital and is hoping to be back home today. Our thoughts are with you Shirley.

I hope all of you are still scouring your home for five and ten cent coins to add to our bulging collection bucket for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal.

Cheers,

President Kevin
