We certainly can feel proud as a club when we have members who immediately embrace the true ideals of Rotary and provide financial assistant for victims of the recent natural disasters in our region. I felt honoured as your President, to receive a cheque for a considerable amount, from a member who requests anonymity, and that request will be honoured, but who I feel deserves “quiet” acknowledgement for his wonderful gesture in kick-starting our club’s effort to provide assistance to District Governor Paul Reid’s Disaster Appeal Fund, that will distribute funds where they are most needed, through Rotary Programs.

It was also pleasing to see Allan and Welwyn Petersen support the great humanitarian and educational work provided by the Rotary Foundation in honouring their son, Andrew, with a Paul Harris Fellow for his service to the community through his dedication to his profession of environmental law. Congratulations Andrew.

Andrew conveyed to members his high level of knowledgeable expertise together with detailed common sense information during his speech on the climate change issue and I am positive we all gained a greater understanding of the complexities involved for those making decisions for our future and the hope that their wisdom will enable benefits for all of mankind.

There are a couple of special events being organised by other clubs in our district that members may be interested in attending during the next couple of months. The first is The Ken Nicholls Memorial Dinner, to be held on Saturday 21st November from 6.30pm at Blacktown RSL Club and then closer to home on Saturday 12th December, Burwood Rotary Club will be celebrating their seventieth anniversary and at the same time celebrating PDG Harry Pickett’s fifty years as a member of the club, with a Gala Dinner at The Burwood RSL Club, commencing at 6.30pm for 7.00pm.

Tonight we welcome Brian Lawrenson, Past President of the Breakfast Point Rotary Club, who will entertain us with his travel adventures along the Silk Road.

Cheers,

President Kevin
