Wednesday 7 April 2010

I hope everyone has enjoyed the Easter Holidays and had the opportunity to share valuable time with family and friends.

It was with considerable regret that the Board received and accepted the resignation of Past President Bert Houston last Tuesday. Bert joined our club in November 1985, serving as Secretary in 1987-88, President in 1991-92, and holding down numerous Board and committee positions including Conference Chairman for Past District Governor Harley Tarrant in 2006-07. Bert has also been our “Trivia Master” for the past five years, entertaining everyone with his master of ceremonies skills. He has always been an enthusiastic and energetic Rotarian and his sharp wit and wonderful sense of humour will be sorely missed by all members. I am sure you join with me in wishing Bert and Carol well in their future endeavours.

Amongst a number of matters addressed at our Board Meeting last week the Board unanimously decided to continue to support The Trish Foundation MS Charity Golf Day, and believe strongly that this support is not a significant impediment to the support of other worthwhile causes that the club may decide to undertake in the future.

Howard Bell and President KevinOur guest speaker last week, Howard Bell, from Amnesty International, provided members with a number of interesting examples of the lack of basic human rights experienced by members of our own society and the need to identify and correct them where possible.

A reminder to all members to check the commitment sheets for events happening over the next few months and enter the dates in to your diaries.

Tonight we once again tap into the extraordinary resources within our own club and are honoured to have as our Guest Speaker, Past District Governor, Harley Tarrant, with the fascinating and exciting topic of “Images of the floating world- an impression of Japan”

Cheers,

President Kevin
