President's Pieces

20 July 2005

July 13th our first meeting of this Rotary year with our normal format saw Police Chaplain Father Columba McBeth-Green entertain us with stories and anecdotes of what the position of Police chaplain entails.

Quite a different address which was very well received as evidenced by the many questions that followed.

Father Columba was introduced to the Club by Eve Dutton who had also been instrumental in securing Father Columba as a speaker.  Connie and Shirley have now taken over from Richard Horwood as Programmes Organisers.  I am sure that they would be pleased to hear of speakers or contacts that you may have for future meetings.  May I sincerely thank Richard for carrying on arranging the programme for much longer than first envisaged.

While we are on the subject I am grateful, as I am sure all the Club are, that Connie and Shirley have been willing to fill this very important position.

We also welcomed Assistant District Governor Peter Davidson to our meeting last week.  Peter is a tower of strength in Rotary matters.  Peter spoke briefly to the club and at more length to the Board after the meeting.  Various topics were discussed including child protection and membership retention as well as introducing new members.

Peter Foss had encouraging news about the Trivia Quiz on August 12th.  Peter reported good numbers but still room for more and a great night assured.  I hope that we can all support our first fundraiser for the year.

Till next week, enjoy Rotary
