President George's

Thursday 16 February 2006

Tonight we give a big welcome and thank you to all the golfers who helped to make the day a successful in aid of a very worthwhile cause.  I trust that everyone enjoyed the day.

“Golf is an ineffectual attempt to direct an incontrollable sphere into an inaccessible hole with instruments ill adapted to the purpose” (Winston Churchill).

Last week Peter Kasavetis took us into the world of finance and explained a few traps for young players, of which there seem to be quite a number.

The GSE Team to Thailand will be leaving next week.  All District 9690 Clubs were asked for a monetary donation to help with the local Thai literacy programme and this will be presented by the GSE team.  Treasurer Bob sent off a cheque for $500.00 as our contribution.

I attended a Presidents meeting at the Panthers last Friday.  The main theme of the evening was membership awareness, though a wide range of topics were presented, including the Shelter Box programme, advertising – billboards etc, Fred Hollows Foundation ($29.00 to save someone sight), the RYDA programme, Youth Director Joe Campisi showed the Club a video on this young driver awareness course some weeks ago.

We will hear more of the above in the next few months

A few spots are still available for the Rotary Friendship Exchange Teams trip to Sweden in August.

DG Elect Harley Tarrant, who left for the USA last Monday, was bid Bon Voyage at the meeting and a safe return in 4 weeks time.

“So - show me a man who is a good loser and I’ll show you a man who is playing golf with his boss” (Jim Murray)

Until next week

Enjoy Rotary,

                         President George
