Congratulations
to Brian Johnson on being elected as the Rotary Club of Strathfield
President for the year 2007/8. That sounds a long way off Brian but I
know from experience just how quickly the time goes. Congratulations
also to next years board who were elected last Wednesday evening. The
meeting at a somewhat different venue proved to be a very good one
influenced no doubt by Chairman PP Peter Manenti. Sergeant Bert Houston
and Speaker Peter Foss as well as “Bingo Caller” Alan Peterson , all
done with good grace and a great deal of good humour.
Kevin Beltrame and I attended the
President’s meeting at the Millennium Foundation Westmead Hospital last
Friday. We had an excellent dinner and heard an enlightening talk on
diabetes. Did you know that type 2 diabetes is skyrocketing in
Australia? The Foundation are doing a great job in research in this
area and certainly deserving of support.
District Governor, Bill Little
would like all Clubs to form a “Family of Rotary Committee”. Taking
family in the wider context. Do we have a keen Chairperson in our
ranks?
Carols
in the Park continues to evolve and grow. From the Rotary Club of
Strathfield’s perspective this years set up was very good indeed.
Chairman Bert Houston did a really great job bringing it all together
and making it happen. The team didn’t do too badly either an excellent
effort all round. I really believe Rotary scored quite a few brownie
points on the night. Council put on a polished professional Christmas
Carols evening in front of a record crowd. It was a traditional Carols
night and I am sure Council will be well pleased with the outstanding
result of a first class Carols by Candlelight.
