President's Pieces

6 July 2005

Where to begin? At the start is always a good place.

June 29th Changeover night for the Rotary Club of Strathfield at the Strathfield Golf Club.

On June 22nd President Keith Byrne said to me “no need to worry about the changeover George, everything is planned, just be sure to turn up!” Keith was as good as his word. With Peter Foss as M.C. the evening rolled along very smoothly and I believe very enjoyably.  Chef Rudi, on his last night as the club’s caterer, put on a magnificent spread.  Speeches were all well received.  Attendance was excellent.  A really good night well planned by Keith and Sue Byrne.  A great credit to them both and I’m sure that we would all congratulate Keith on his highly successful presidential year.

So we are off and running in 2005/6 the centenary year and a start to the second century of Rotary.  This year’s motto is Service above Self.  I hope that we can live up to this and enjoy fellowship and fun while we are about it.

A problem that remains is storage for the club BBQ.  Perhaps members would give it some thought.

Club assembly tonight when all Rotarians are encouraged to express their feelings on what we are doing well and what we could be doing better.  Constructive ideas are always welcome and I am sure some will be forthcoming tonight.

District Governor’s aide Peter Davidson will visit us on the 13th of July.  Peter has requested that the board stay back after the meeting for 10 – 15 minutes.

In closing, may I express my thanks to all Strathfield Rotarians for giving me the honour and privilege to serve as the President for the coming year.  I have been greatly encouraged by the offers of help given by so many.  We look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
