Last Week – Our Last in the Old
Clubhouse
Well, the time finally came – our last ever meeting at the old
Strathfield Golf Clubhouse, and what a night it was! There was such
good fellowship in the room last week, with so many respected past
members of our Club in attendance. We had almost 60 in total
attendance to celebrate our 14 or so years in that venue, with some
humorous reminiscences from several current and past members. Thanks
to all who came along to make it such a fun night.
Once more, I would like to offer my thanks – on behalf of the Club –
to Peter and Kay, for looking after us for all the years they’ve
been at the Club. It was noted at the meeting that the very first
function they ever served since being appointed as the Golf Club
caterers was the Strathfield Rotary Club meeting of 1st August 2012.
It was therefore fitting they serve our final meal at the Club too,
almost 6 years later.
My thanks also to Brian and Richard for looking after us too, from
behind the bar. We hope to see them both at the new venue in the
near future.
RWHESCA Night
Christine and I attended the inaugural RWHESCA Night on Saturday
night, along with other Club Rotarians and partners: Domenico and
Johanna Alvaro, Peter VdS, Roy Ellis and Chris Virgona. Of course,
Paolo and Patricia Giammarco were there too! It was a great night of
celebration for our local first responder heroes in the area, with
worthy nominees awarded on the night and being put forward for the
State (and now with ACT too) awards. These NSW and ACT awards will
be presented on 1st June 2018 at the Bankstown Sports Club Awards
Dinner.
Well done, Paolo… you pulled it off! It looked like a great team
effort from the participating Clubs. Good job. Hopefully some photos
from the night will make their way to us soon.
Catherine Sullivan Centre Ball
OK, the next BIG thing on our calendar is the Catherine Sullivan
Centre Gala Ball, to raise much needed funds for a Phonemic
Awareness Program, for their hearing impaired students. You’ve heard
Rtn. Andrew Aravanis speak about this for months now. It’s now only
10 days away – next Friday, 6th April 2018. Event and booking
details can be found on our Club website (thanks PP Raymond!).
Please come along to help us ‘make a difference’ to these young
children with hearing loss. The goal is to fill Le Montage with over
200 guests, and raise $50,000.00 on the night for this program.
Let’s do it!
This Week – our First at Massey
Park Golf Club
Welcome to Massey Park Golf Club! The Board hopes you like our new
‘temporary’ Club Meeting venue. We’ll be here for at least three
months, as we go through the process of deciding on our next
‘permanent’ home. The main factor precluding us from deciding to go
straight back to the new Strathfield Golf Clubhouse is that we
haven’t been able to discuss and agree any arrangements with the
Club’s new caterer yet. As soon as we can and have agreed on
satisfactory terms, we’ll make that announcement. If we can’t agree
on terms, the ‘Club Move’ project team will recommend alternatives;
we’ll just have to wait and see.
Once again, many thanks to the ‘Club Move’ project team – led by Rtn.
John Tsaprounis, with a LOT of the hard yards put in by Rtn. Arie
Pappas, supported by PP Keith Byrn, PP Grahame True, PP Raymond
McCluskie and Secretary Rod McDougall.
Tonight we’ll be hearing from Bev Young on a program to alleviate
poverty in Uganda – an important topic for Rotarians to understand,
in an impoverished part of the world.
