LAST TWO WEEKS
What a great couple of weeks we’ve
just had!
Firstly, at our
Club Meeting on 30th August 2017 we had a
world-class presentation from Milind Kamkolkar, the proud son of
prouder parents, Anu and Umesh Kamkolkar.
The presentation had the
entire audience captivated from start to finish. It was a shame we
didn’t have another 30-minutes to hear more, and ask more
questions. In attendance also was Milind’s brother, Akhilesh, whom
we’ve invited to come back as a speaker in his own right. He will
also be able to captivate, I’m sure, when his time comes. He also
leads a very interesting business life. See the attempt that Andrew
Aravanis has made to summarise Milind’s speech in his Speaker
Write-up. I wouldn’t have wanted that task! (available in the
bulletin)
Next, we had a great night of food and fun at the
Ryde College of
TAFE Training Restaurant
–The Terrace – last week, served by a
wonderful group of students and led by a marvellous teacher, Kate
Crocker, a past RYLArian herself. Andrew Aravanis introduced us to
a new raffle style, known as the Greek Mafia Raffle – very
entertaining. It was also great to see so many partners along on
that night, enjoying good food and fellowship. My special thanks to
PP Raymond McCluskie for arranging the night. I very much look
forward to our next one.
Strathfield Spring Fair
Special thanks to Andrew Aravanis (who is getting far too many
mentions in this bulletin!) and Peter Smith for organising the BBQ
at the recent Strathfield Spring Fair, widely regarded as the most
popular food outlet at the event.
Also, thanks to all those of you
that spent some time cooking and serving on the day; much
appreciated. We welcomed new member, Nick Hamilton-Kane to the
famous Strathfield Rotary BBQ experience on this day. He seemed to
enjoy it. Thanks for coming along, Nick.
It was a great day out for the Strathfield Community, and a great
day for Strathfield Rotary to fly its flag, also showing our public
support for the Catherine Sullivan Centre on the day. We received a
note of thanks from the Centre after the day, expressing deep
gratitude, and explaining how our participation has tangibly
advanced the awareness and public image of the Centre in the
Strathfield Community. On top of all this, we raised some $2,300.00
for them from the BBQ. Win-win all-round. Thanks again to all.
Wednesday Program Items
Be sure to regularly check in on our
Programs page
(click) on the Club
website to keep abreast of upcoming speakers and events. We have a
jam-packed program this year, expertly coordinated by PP Raymond
McCluskie (also perhaps getting too many mentions in this
bulletin!). The next big one is the Police Office of the Year
Awards on 27th September 2017, to be MC’d by PP John Elvy. Lock
that date in. I’m sure it will be a great night, as always.
This Week
This week we welcome to our Club, Gillian Legge from Meriden School,
and four Interact Students, who will tell us of the wonderful work
they have been doing as Interactors. Our Youth Program is a jewel
in the crown of this club. I can’t wait to hear what the girls have
been up to, and how they are being enriched by their Interact
experience. Special thanks to PP’s Roger Vince and Peter Smith for
their fabulous work with our Interactors, and Arie Pappas for
expertly leading our wonderful Youth Program.
