Last Week –
POOTY Awards
As usual, our annual Police Officer of the Year Awards, with some
115 guests proved to be a real highlight and an event that we can
all be proud of as members of this Club. The night ran very
smoothly under the guidance of MC, PP John Elvy, even finishing
ahead of time! (Why does that never happen when I’m MC’ing?).
Anyway, a HUGE congratulations to Paolo Giammarco and his entire
team for pulling off a fantastic evening, where it was abundantly
evident that all the Police and their partners were having a great
time. Congratulations once again to all the finalists nominated by
their peers, and to the overall winners: Senior Constable Brendan
Hui from Burwood Command; and Sergeant Peter Nicolle (nicknamed ‘The
Captain’) from Flemington Command. It was funny for me to observe
Sergeant Nicolle and one of his colleagues, Senior Constable
Tennille Jago (winner of the major raffle prize) chatting at the end
of the night. I just couldn’t get that song ‘Do That to Me One More
Time’ (The Captain and Tennille) out of my head! Special thanks
also to Brad Ayres for the great photos taken once again on the
night. Brad didn’t rest and didn’t miss a single important moment –
great job! (Brad, did you put these last two sentence in, yourself?)
Adopt a Scientist
Australian Rotary Health (one of our named service recipients this
year) is hosting a dinner at Dooleys Lidcombe on Thursday, 19th
October 2017 at 6:30pm called the A Night with Our Researchers.
This dinner function, priced at just $50.00 per person for a
three-course dinner and table wine included, is part of the Lift the
Lid on Mental Illness program running with ARH, and will be an
opportunity for Rotarians and the community to hear from some of the
ARH funded researchers. Should be a very interesting night.
We will be trying to get a table organised; a Commitment Sheet will
be coming around soon. Bookings close on 12th October 2017, and if
you’d like to make your own arrangements, enquiries can be made with
Jenny Towe on 02 8837 1900 or at admin@arh.org.au
Some Guy called Sandra
This week we have Australia’s own Batgirl as our guest speaker –
Sandra Guy – from Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services. Sandra
will have with her a furry little friend, and will be talking to us
about (I guess) Flying Foxes and their importance in our ecosystem.
A perfect topic on what is World Animal Day, today.
